Join us at Waterstones Piccadilly on 29 May

Servicewomen, Spies and Spitfire pilots: the brave heroines who helped win the Second World War
7pm, Friday 29 May 2015 – Waterstones Piccadilly

On 29 May, we are hosting an event at Waterstones’ flagship store in the West End, celebrating the brave women whose courage and heroism helped win the fight against Hitler. We will be sharing stories from some of the 100-plus former servicewomen of the ATS, WRNS and WAAF (the women’s Army, Navy and Air Force respectively) who they interviewed in the course of their research, and will be joined by two very special guests. Clare Mulley (the award-winning author of publishing sensation The Spy Who Loved) will be speaking about the female agents of the Special Operations Executive who worked undercover in occupied Europe, and Jacky Hyams (author of the hit memoir Bombsites and Lollipops) will talk about the women of the Air Transport Auxiliary – aka ‘Attagirls’ – who flew Spitfires around Britain during the war. The speeches will be followed by a panel discussion and audience Q&A.

This event is presented in association with London Historians and will be chaired by LH founder Mike Paterson.
